How Often Should You Clean Radiators

How often do you clean inside your house Every Day? Once a Week? Or even less than that?

It is beneficial that you carry out one deep clean at least once a year prior to the heating season to remove accumulated reservoirs of dust

Cleaning the house can be a daunting task, some people love doing it, while some will wait until the mould starts growing hair – especially the mould around your house that can also be behind your radiators but not visible as the microscopic pores can disperse and circulate via heat convection from your radiators raising exposure levels for vulnerable recipients.

House cleaning is an important chore that can keep your home beautiful, livable and hygienic.

Cleaning Radiators

By maintaining a regular schedule, you can ensure that your home is always presentable and avoid the last-minute rush to tidy up when you have visitors coming over. Cleaning behind radiators is a difficult chore that you are reluctant to have to do.

But it’s a chore worthwhile to benefit your family’s well-being during the winter months. Allergy UK estimates that there are over 12 million people who are allergic to their own homes of which can be connected to the winter surge of Home Fever or emergency asthma admissions which peak during the winter months.

Not everyone recognizes some of the most obvious objects that can be in each room of the home which needs to be cleaned but go unnoticed! – one of the most common ones being radiators that are fixed and lack access for easy cleaning which over a period of time accumulates dust.

As it turns out your home can be harboring more bacteria that goes unnoticed when you think your home is clean. Did you know that your radiators are also contaminated with accumulating dust containing bacteria more so behind the back of the radiator which includes the wall where nobody ever tends to look!

How To Clean Your Radiators

Radiators are constructed in such a way that dust and dirt can become trapped and takes some time to clean it all out. The cleaning of a radiator thoroughly can be difficult, with such little space behind the radiator.

Radiator brushes get to those hard to reach places easily but instead of removing the dust, it just gets pushed further down the radiator. To get a full clean and remove all dirt and dust properly, full access to the radiator is needed so the radiator can be cleaned properly.

The most effective way to thoroughly clean your radiator is to install a drop-down radiator removal kit. Once installed, the system will allow for your radiator to be rotated to floor level, providing complete access behind the radiator for thorough cleaning and you will never have the need to drain down the radiator to take if off the wall.

This then makes it simple to hoover away the dust or just by using a cloth and some warm soapy water to clean the dust thoroughly away.

The kits can be retrofitted to most standard panel radiators, allowing radiators to pivot along the access of the radiator valves without putting any strain on the pipework or the fittings.

Why Should You Clean Your Radiators?

Central heating radiators create ideal conditions for dust mites, mould spores and microbiological infections to flourish, creating higher levels of allergens that are then circulated via heat convection which ultimately create poorer indoor air quality for us, especially within the winter months.

The dust mite is the most common cause of allergy symptoms in the UK.  It is one of the most potent triggers of allergy reactions and a common trigger for rhinitis, asthma and eczema. Allergy symptoms include sneezing, watery eyes, coughing and wheezing.

The dust mite is found in almost every human habitat, but it is invisible to the human eye. Its nests are made in bedding, curtains, carpets, soft furnishings and soft toys, and can be present in the home all year round and it's the dust mite faeces that is present in the dust that lurks behind the radiator!

Conclusion

By deep cleaning your radiators and the wall behind at least once a year before you switch on the heating for the first time in the Autumn, this helps to prevent increased contaminated dust exposure levels in the air you breathe indoors during the winter months.

As the heat convection from radiators circulates and suspends dust particles for long periods of time when in use.
